...The trauma ...The New Drivers License

If you ever hear I have been arrested...It will most likely be for taking illegal pictures...LOL
I shall explain in a bit...
So I always write about celebrations and fun events but it is never always so...
My brother-in-law lost his mother and so the family gathered to attend the funeral events on Wednesday...
Left work early and made my way to Hoares Memorial Yaba to pay tribute to an amazing woman...
While everyone tried to stay strong, tears flowed freely and I joined in...
The tributes given were deeply touching as it often is with a life well lived...
Now in the midst of the service, The vicar announces that a handbag had been stolen and should be kindly returned because it had important documents and keys in it...
WHAT THE HELL????
I mean some people want an express train ride to hell...
Who steals at a funeral service?...Okay scratch that, when my dad died, People came in to pay condolences and "took away" things...
I used took away because I had hopes that they would be returned...Of course they weren't returned...
No update was given on if the thief was kind enough to return the bag but I really pray it was returned...

Then yesterday, I took the day off work because I needed to have my drivers license renewed and I had heard it was a whole day event...and indeed it was....
A WHOLE DAY!!!!!!
This Nigeria kills me...not softly o...
How can it take a whole day to have your picture taken and bio-metrics done?
First up, I drove to Sura to get this done, the text I received from the application centre said "Arrive before 8am"...
I managed to find the centre about 7:30am and there was a long ass queue...
One man was boasting on getting there by 5:30am! Huh?
Now I have never been to Sura and I am happy to never go back in my life...
Dirty, Grimey place filled with touts with dilated pupils...#gofigure...
Surprising it is a mere 5 minutes drive from Ikoyi...Home of the affluent...
Anyway, I knew it would be a long day when the staff started strolling in at 9 am...
I want to chronicle every single moment of my experience but I am still astounded by the daftness of the situation to do so...
The FRSC guys proceeded to start reeling names out by 10 am and giving numbers on how we would be attended to...
Three batches of 60...I was luckily number 59...
Because if you were in the second batch, you were advised to go and return in three hours and the third batch in six hours!!!!!!

Knowing it would be a while till my number would be called, I decided I could use a bit of food and escape to sanity so I drove back into Ikoyi for a meal...
One hour later, I was back...
When I made my way in, I met with utter chaos...people arguing and shouting...all sorts....
Apparently they were having network issues and could not access everyone's information so they were asking people to come back on Saturday....
By God's special grace, my data was available....whoop whoop!
I have a theory for this though, I was originally meant to go in on the 30th of October for the bio-metrics so maybe my procrastination helped me out, because everyone whose original date was yesterday suffered the network issue fate...
So the queue again...albeit shorter...and the waiting area....I took pictures...
To take these pictures was risking my life and even worse, the risk of not being attended to!!!!!
See me yakking about VFS yes? This place made VFS seem like a luxurious destination!
The world's dirtiest tent held together by ropes and wooden benches...
My back and backside are still sore!
When I finally entered the data capture room, I realized there was one bio-metric machine for everyone...Like I said, This Nigeria will not kill me...
Then came my turn...Fresh coat of powder and Lipstick applied... Errr...I mean even if I was traumatized it is always a good idea to look nice in official documents...
Then I was issued the temporary license....Come back in two months for the Original....
I was so glad I skipped out of the office...by 2 pm...Phew!!!!!!
Okay before I sign off on the ordeal...here is what is boggling me...Why can't agencies share bio-metric details?
Like the immigration service and the road safety guys...why must our pictures and finger prints be taken from every agency?
Annoying....
Now I am back at work, which is all good since it is FRIDAY so it is mellow...
The Lagos Jazz festival has kicked off, Today is Afro-beat night at the park, I am hoping to go for a bit...
Wedding tomorrow...yes I know...professional wedding guest as I said...
I shall throw in some healthy dose of sleep in the midst of all these plans...
Hope everyone has had a good week planned and has a great weekend planned as well?

xxx
