VFS - The exploitation of Nigerians...

Monday....
I wish I could wave a magic wand and the time would fly by quicker...This day needs to end already!
It is barely 11 am and I have yawned a few times...
Anyway how did everyone's weekend go?
I had another wedding weekend (I am fast becoming a professional wedding guest!).
I swear all these weddings are taking a toll on my liver! Hehehe
Have at least two more and I think i will sign off for the year...
Congratulations to everyone who has found someone to handle their drama for the rest of their lives...

Okay so I was out of the office Thursday and Friday so could not update the blog even though there was a lot to muse and rant about...
I shall share the one still fresh on my mind...
Last week I went into VFS Oregun, the visa processing place to renew a visa.
I have never had the misfortune of doing VFS in Lagos so I assumed it would be somewhat sane as Abuja usually is...
Error!
We arrived (Tinuke and I) by 10am, good time by all means...
Only when we stepped in, we were given numbers...274 and 275...
And asked to proceed to the waiting area...
Waiting area? More like tarpaulin stretched over a wooden frame with plastic chairs in the sweltering heat....
The solution? VIP waiting area for a fee of course...a fee almost equal to the amount for the Visa.
Now to say the VIP area is a farce would be putting things mildly...The only thing it had going on for it was air conditioning...
For the fee we paid, we were not offered water, tacky burgundy leatherette (not to be confused with leather please) chair and a TV monitor blaring news from CNN...
Worse off, it was so full we could not get in, But all wait in another waiting area albeit with air conditioning...
Now the wait....

Finally a staff came to attend to the spillover of the so called "VIP" section..
Only she decided to attend to the agents she knew...the ones I am sure grease her palm...
This would have worked on a good day for her except today I was present....
I stormed up to the desk and with a smile as brilliant as sun inquired menacingly if she was actually going to attend to the agents who came into the room after I had walked in...
Her response? I do not know who came in first...then I said and you did not think to ask?
I swiftly informed her not so nicely i must add that I knew every single person who I met in the room and who came behind me and she had better not try that film trick on my watch...
At this point I could see other agents lining up their wards, waiting to jump queue...
My little drama worked because the manager came in to deal with the situation all the while saying Madam calm down...
Oh I am very calm, you do not want to see me when I am not calm I reply...
Just make sure things are done well or else...by now everyone is joining in complaining of the foolishness of the staff...
Eventually, Order is restored, and we proceed nicely...
Just as we neared the submission desk, The VIP room becomes available and the queue is split...
So I head into the room to have my submission done and Tinuke stays in the overflow so we can get attended to quicker...
Here comes that silly agent again trying to jump queue...with a family of four...
One igbo high chief with his red cap and his wife and children...
Drama continues again...
At this point, the blood is boiling in my head, I told off not only the agent, but the Igbo chief...#Godforgiveme
I was like "Oga I am trying to respect you because you could be my father but damn you make it so hard"...
Ask your agent to layoff, I am sure you have been abroad before and see how stuff is done so why do you want to get special rights?
I believe I got attended to even quicker just so the VFS staff could get me out of their hair!!!!!
To make matters worse when the man is finally called up, his papers are incomplete...
Yes I burst out laughing...Sorry the meanie in me was dancing azonto!

Anyhow, who has a similar VFS experience?
Who is in charge of checking the exploitation going on there in the name of applying/renewing a visa?
Why make it so uncomfortable for people to apply for visas?
I can understand embassies outsourcing this function, it must save them tons of money in security and staffing and besides they do not pay VFS, these buggers charge a separate sum but common must it be done in the most uncomfortable inhumane manner?
Tarpaulin and plastic chairs...Common now! I know VFS is run by Indians and they can be very cheap but this is just wrong...
I wanted to take pictures but they may have locked me up...LOL
But then again, now that I recall...When I was renewing my passport, The Immigration office was a horror..I did take pictures, I should find them and upload...
Lord have mercy upon us...

Well everyone I hope you have a great start to your week and I shall be back soon...
I have been musing about social media, particularly Instagram and the showmanship going on there...
Invoices of splurge purchases, posting of lastest purchases and everyday clothing and tagging them???
#hermes #cartier #jimmychoo #fendi #foolishness #idiots #whatthehelliswrongwithpeoplethesedays?

Catch up soon
