Team Natural?

So you are a glamour puss?
Your hair is always carefully made, weaves waist length, curled like a tornado gaining steam...
Your nails are long, perfectly manicured...probably blood red...
Your heels are high...clicking away as you walk along...
Make up artfully applied, its a wonder you didn't qualify as an artist...or an architect...surely you used a sets square to set out that eyebrow?...
Lets not get into the shutters *cough* lashes on your eyelids...
You are firmly a well put together girl abi?
Who did you put in all the efforts for though?
Yourself because you like the look...The kardashians are your style heroes?
Or the boy or boys...Because this is what men like yes?

A few months ago, Tinu and I went from salon to drinks with a friend...a proper Lagos boy...
His first words...Ah I am feeling all this natural look you girls have going on o...
We just laugh it off...He's being cute we think...
A few days after, I met up briefly post work with friends...
I love your hair one of the boys exclaims...You look decent...yes I quoted that verbatim...
I thought about this for a really long time...the word decent playing in my head...
I was wondering is this is for real...I know this boy, I know the girls he chases and errrmmmm yes...it did not add up...
Hmmm...
This year I promised I would give my hair a break from excessive weaves especially as it was chewing away at my hair line...
So I try to keep my hair in plaits "Didi style" and a have wig on...(Warning this should only be tried when you are single!...haha)
Very liberating though...
It is really hard staying natural in Lagos o by the way...
The Humidity...phew! Turning your hair into a frizzy mess...
Secondly I am not into that team natural/transitioning shit...nah...I don't have time for all that greasy hair...shout out to those who can do it..
More importantly...because I work out often it is tough keeping my hair out...
I look like a train wreck after Zumba and my hair ...Chai...I cannot describe it to you...
So while I can yak about wanting to give my hair a break, ever so often I run to the comforting hands of weaves!

This weekend after an intense session of groove...I took the weave out...
Enter Sunday evening dinner...
A blow dry...short natural nails albeit polished, Nude lipstick because I just went with the flow...
The compliments made me rethink this whole weave/wig thing...
This suits you...It frames your face, brings out your features, wow, I like the subtle make up...Huh?
Chai....
Even my oyinbo colleagues only compliments me when I am weave free...
Now this is not for everyone oooo please please...and some men are team glamourpusstillyoudie...
My friend says she gets the most compliment from her husband when she has her hair done up, side waves...make up beat and she is slaying...
I know some women who wake up and rub make up before their husband awakes o...Hahaha...maybe not full on...concealer for sure...
So plix understand yaself...understand who you are with...and work with it...
But truth be told, there is so much falseness going on I can see how a man will like natural...
I mean can you imagine what some people look like sans make up and weaves...Ha...
In fact I am always astounded at the salon, its like watching extreme makeover the Laugh Out Loud edition...
Some girls have gorimakpa under those weaves o...

I see why my friend Akin refuses to be hooked up...always whining about not meeting people in Lagos...
But saying Ah, N this your friend on your phone is cute o...
Lets all meet up...I do not believe in pictures and make up...
How can you believe pictures sef...with all the filters and photo editing tools on smart phones these days...
Na wa...
Okay bye...Random musing over...Let me go and find food...

Toodles...

  1. Babe! First of, hook me up with your friend Akin; he sounds sensible! Hehehehe!
But on the real tho, am about to go that didi, wig on a week-day route; enough with all them weaves and all. To be honest, I get the most looks (from men) when my hair is in its natural state (just relaxed I mean), and when I have NO shred of make up on. So perhaps, there's some truth in that. And all my boyfriends have said they liked me the most without make up. So, go figure!

  2. I would say to each his own! I think women dress up for each other as against dressing up for me. We dont like being out-done by the next female brood. She weave an 18'' weave i wear 24, i can do it better mentality. I know some men appreciate women with silky long mermaid weaves and would even pay for their wives to look gorgeous, to men these are men that have constant wet dreams of Eva longoria. The wife might not be into such vanity but hey.. le boo likes it and ama kip kip...
For me, i woke up on a sunny day in december last year and i said no more weaves... no more! i would weave, braid, keep my permed silky hair and repeat the cycle. Its April and i havent't reconsidered but i don't know about tomorrow.]
That said! TO EACH HIS OWN..... LONG, SHORT, WEAVE, BRAID,LATCHES(as my baby calls it),WIGS! if it makes you sleep better, if it feels you kip kip, if it makes you feel like your are d don dada... please do it for yourself.
